Angiology

Angiology is a branch of internal medicine, the focus lies on vascular diseases. It deals with the development, the detection and the treatment of arteries, veins and lymph vessels. Treatable diseases are arterial obstructive disease, for example of pelvis and leg arteries or narrowed carotid arteries of kidneys and guts arteries. Venous diseases are often accompanied by varicose veins and thrombosis. Lymphatic vessels can have oedema, one type is called elephantiasis.

In the first place of examination methods stands the ultrasound, including (Color-) Doppler sonography. Another visual diagnostic method of angiology, phlebography, Computer tomography and magnetic resonance tomography is the presentation of vessels by using contrast medium.
